Contributing to an Inclusive Environment at UBC

UBC welcomes students from all over the world who enrich our campus and community. When working and studying with students and faculty from various places, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, gender identities, soft skills in relationship building, and clear communication help create the inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment expected at UBC.

An environment where everyone can thrive!

In this session, we will explore power, privilege and intersectional identities. We will discuss disrespectful language, identify ways to interrupt its use and learn how to apologize if and when we err. This interactive session will be part presenting information and part conversation with current graduate students on their experience at UBC.

Questions welcomed!

Presenters:

  • Nicolas Romualdi, PhD student in Material Engineering
  • Parker Li, PhD student in Political Science
  • Mopelola Akinlaja, PhD student in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
  • Jacqui Brinkman, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
