Orientation takes place twice a per year in January and August/September. The largest orientation event happens every year just prior to the Labour Day weekend and is a week full of activities and events welcoming you to UBC and Vancouver.

Graduate Studies Welcome Event – September 1
There will be live welcome addresses, an overview of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, and an introduction to campus as well as resources and support for thriving in grad school at UBC.
‘The Social’ is the perfect opportunity for incoming graduate students to meet, interact with and make new friends! Use this outdoor fair to network, enjoy live musicians performing and indulge in some snacks and outdoor activities.
This webinar will provide a detailed overview of the Vanier, Canada Graduate Scholarships – Doctoral program and related upcoming doctoral award competitions. It will review eligibility criteria, competition details, as well as application procedures.
Who should attend?
Full-time, research-based domestic and international students who are:
Master’s students planning to undertake a PhD program in May 2024, September 2024 or January 2025 or
PhD students who are currently starting the first, second or third year of their program.
There will be time for Q&A.

Brendan Morey is the Assistant Dean, Student Administration and Awards, in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, with many years of experience overseeing scholarship competitions and collaborating with funding agencies across Canada.
Join our G+PS Welcome for an introduction to campus services, tips from current and recent graduate students, and a city & campus exploration activity. Stay for lunch to mingle with campus resource partners and then we’ll end with a faculty panel presentation and Q&A on thriving in graduate school.
Join us as we introduce Campus Resources and offer tips for Graduate School Success. Stay tuned for the agenda and more event details! Registration is not required for this event.

This is an interactive session designed specifically for international students at the graduate level, addressing important topics such as student and work permits, work authorization, and health insurance. All new International students should plan to attend this important session, and may also be interested in the international student guide at students.ubc.ca/international.
Please note lunch is not included, but the UBC Point Grey Campus is home to numerous food choices.
